TORTOLỈ
It is the
main centre of Sardinia's central-eastern coast.
Tortolì is
famous for its beautiful beaches, environmental variety, traditions and
agri-food products.
Moreover,
this town represents the gateway to Ogliastra.
The hamlet
of Arbatax is home to the Rocce Rosse natural monument.
Behind the
Rocce Rosse stands Cala Moresca. A
little further south are the azure shades of Porto Frailis and the long Lido
di Orrì, where Cala Ginepro and San Gemiliano are located.
The
spectacle of nature is completed by welcoming green areas: the La Sughereta urban park and the Batteria park, on the top of a hill,
with a view of the entire gulf.
The Nuragic
age is represented at the site of s'Ortali
'e su Monti: its seven hectares include a complex nuraghe, a Giants' tomb,
two menhirs, huts, a domu de Janas, a
wall and the remains of another nuraghe.
Spanish
heritage are the control towers, such as the tower of San Miguel.
Town
monuments include the museum of modern art su Logu de s'Iscultura and the former
cathedral of St. Andrew.
ARBATAX
Ogliastra locality of Rocce Rosse on
the Sardinian east coast.
Arbatax is developed around its port and the
promontory of Capo Bellavista, dominated by a lighthouse.
Arbatax is the main maritime port of call on the east
coast.
Inland, there is a marina offering dinghy rental and
charter services. From here one can set off to explore the coast of Baunei and
the Gulf of Orosei, namely Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna,
Cala Sisine and Cala Biriola, Cala dei Gabbiani, the
natural monument of Pedra Longa and the caves of Fico and Bue
Marino.
Moreover, without straying far from the coast, one can
admire the Rocce Rosse: high reddish cliffs near the harbour that offer an
unforgettable panorama.
On the beaches around Arbatax fly three Blue Flags, a
flag awarded by the FEE for water quality, environmental sustainability and
level of services, they are: Spiaggia di Ponente, Porto Frailis and Lido
di Orrì.
