One of the
most important centres of Ogliastra known for its history, archaeological
evidence and beautiful territory in which some coastal 'jewels' are located.
Bari Sardo,
nestled in hills of vineyards and orchards, stands on the striking basalt
plateau Teccu 'e su Crastu.
The village
is characterised by rustic houses, farmhouses, Spanish towers, ancient
sheepfolds and the imposing parish church of Nostra Signora di Monserrato, one of the most beautiful on the
island. There are also other churches, such as that of Santa Cecilia, inside the village, that of San Giovanni, in sa Marina, and that of San Leonardo.
As far as
archaeological evidence is concerned, the territory preserves the Domus de Janas of Pizzu 'e Monti and Funtana su
Rettore, 14 nuraghi of which the most famous is the Sellersu and Giants' tombs of Canali,
Uli and Pitzu Teccu.
The symbol
of Bari Sardo is the Tower of Barì,
built by the Aragonese between 1572 and 1639.
