Danilo, the Sardinian Artisan Who Made Ceramics a Bridge Between Cultures and Generations
Perdasdefogu, Sardinia - A story that smells of clay and passion, that of Danilo, born in 1964 in the heart of Ogliastra and who became, in adulthood, a true ambassador of the ancient art of ceramics. An unusual journey, which began only at the age of 45, but which has transformed into a profound vocation and a constant commitment to transmitting a millenary knowledge.
His journey into the world of ceramics has solid roots in the Amalfi Coast, where he had the opportunity to immerse himself in the artistic philosophy of Maestro Ugo Marano, in his studio in Cetara. A fundamental encounter, which laid the foundations for an approach to ceramic art imbued with meaning and research. His first practical steps, however, were taken in the IOS Ceramica workshop of Sergio Scognamiglio, heir to the wisdom of the great Maestro Marano, learning the fundamental techniques of this ancient art.
A significant turning point in his training is represented by the meeting and friendship with Bruno Massidda. From this artistic partnership began a fascinating journey of exploration into Caribbean and South American ceramics, which led him to participate in numerous international symposiums. An experience that proved to be a true cultural and technical enrichment, opening his horizons to new forms of expression and millenary traditions.
Strengthened by this wealth of international experience, Danilo decided to bring the acquired richness back to his homeland, organizing the first Artistic Ceramics Symposium of Ogliastra. An event that proved to be a crossroads of cultures and talents, offering him the opportunity to engage with artists from every corner of the world and to acquire skills ranging from traditional Italian ceramics to the fascinating Japanese Raku techniques.
But Danilo's true soul lies in the generosity with which he shares his knowledge. His greatest satisfaction, he confesses, is being able to pass on the knowledge he received, in turn with great generosity, to those who wish to try their hand at creating unique works. A commitment that makes him not only an expert ceramist but also a precious custodian and disseminator of an artistic and cultural heritage of inestimable value. Through his hands, the ancient art of ceramics continues to live and inspire new generations of artists.
