Cala Goloritzé

The uncontaminated and wild Cala Goloritzé, testimonial of Baunei, is one of the coastal stretches of the Gulf of Orosei where sea and mountains meet in perfect harmony.

A ‘protected’ national monument since 1995, it is the most photographed beach in Ogliastra, firmly included in the top ten most beautiful beaches in Italy. The spectacular sandy shore, composed of endless white pebbles, was formed in 1962, following a landslide that detached from the sandstone wall.

Two hundred metres north of the main beach, you will find the small ‘spiaggia delle sorgenti’ (spring beach), which derives its name from the spring waters that gush out among the rocks. To the south, the bay is bordered by a rock wall in which the erosive action of the sea has carved a stone arch that plunges into the sea.

The enchanting scenery is guarded by the ‘mistress of the house’, the grandiose spire, known as the ‘aguglia a tramontana’, a limestone spur coveted by climbers from all over the world: it has various climbing ‘routes’, the most famous of which is the ‘symphony of windmills’. Thanks to the echo of the conquest of the peak by the two famous mountaineers (1981), the beach immediately became a destination for free-climbing enthusiasts, as well as a nesting habitat for the Queen's falcon. Not only climbers, Cala Goloritzé is also home to trekking.
